This year, too, we saw Sivakarthikeyan’s Ayalaan locking horns with Dhanush’s Captain Miller. Ayalaan at the worldwide box office
Released on 12th January, the Sivakarthikeyan starrer enjoyed decent reviews from critics, and even word-of-mouth was favorable. However, this reception wasn’t fully reflected in the box office run despite Pongal holidays, and the collection that came was not up to the mark.
In India, Ayalaan did a business of 49.50 crores net at the Indian box office, which equals 58.41 crores gross. In the overseas market, it earned 18 crores gross, thus taking the total to 76.41 crores gross at the worldwide box office. Please note that this collection is only from the original Tamil version, and the Telugu didn’t arrive in theatres due to some legal issues.
This Dhanush starrer also enjoyed favorable reviews from critics, and even audience feedback was decent. However, it didn’t help the film in gaining traction at the box office. In India, it earned 49.25 crores net, which equals a gross of 58.11 crores. In overseas, a collection of 17.50 crores gross has been obtained. On the whole, the worldwide box office total stands at 75.61 crores gross.
Unlike Ayalaan, Captain Miller enjoyed the benefit of the dubbed Telugu and Hindi versions.

On IMDb, Sivakarthikeyan’s film stands at a decent rating of 6.2 out of 10, with a vote of 2.5k users. On Rotten Tomatoes, it has a rating of 33% on Tomatometer but enjoys 83% rating in audience score.
Coming to the Dhanush starrer, it is rated at 6.9 out of 10 and has been voted by around 4.5k users. On Rotten Tomatoes, it has a rating of 89% on Tomatometer, while there’s no rating available for audience score.
