Indian actress Rekha ruled the cinema world for years and is considered a legend. On the one hand, she had an illustrious career in showbiz, while on the other, that is, in her personal life, love alluded to the Umrao Jaan star. She has been linked with several actors, and her affair with Amitabh Bachchan is still a hot topic. Her linkups were infamous back in the day, and it once prompted Sanjay Dutt’s mother, Nargis, to pass a controversial statement against the veteran actress.
A few years later, there were rumors about Sanjay and Rekha’s affair, and some even claimed that the duo got married in a secret ceremony. From Akshay Kumar to Shatrughan Sinha, the Silisila actress has been linked with them all. People were left stunned when she attended Rishi Kapoor and Neetu Singh’s wedding in 1980, with sindoor in her hair.
A few years later, in 1984, the Khoobsurat actress appeared in the film Zameen Aasmaan alongside Sanjay Dutt. The rumors of their closeness were all over the news after they started filming. This incident was also mentioned in Yasser Usman’s Rekha: The Untold Story biography. Usman mentioned that some tabloids even claimed that the duo got married and the Silsila actress wore sindoor in Sanjay’s name.
Usman also revealed that things went so out of hand that Sanjay Dutt had to deny the allegations in a magazine, which was an official denial. Reports also claimed Sunil Dutt asked the actress to stay away from his son. Both the actors consistently denied the romance rumors.
In 1976, when Sanjay and Rekha probably did not even meet one another, Nargis made a powerful statement about the Silsila actress. The Mother India actress said Rekha made men think she could be readily available. Dutt added, “In the eyes of some people, she is nothing less than a witch.”
Sanjay’s mother mentioned how she tried to understand Rekha’s problem, and after asserting things, she came to believe that the Umrao Jaan actress was lost and needed a strong man. For the unversed, Nargis passed away in 1981, a few years before the linkup rumors came out. Also, Sanjay got married to Richa Sharma in 1987.
Rekha tied the knot with businessman Mukesh Agarwal in 1990, but he committed suicide after a few months of their marriage. He did not blame anyone for his decision to end his life in the suicide note Mukesh left behind.
