However, when Kajol started dating Ajay Devgn, it was rumored all around that the superstar had asked his partner not to sign any films with SRK. While this was just an assumption, the DDLj actress rejecting an Abbas Mastan film with SRK worked as fuel to the fire.
In one of his media addresses in those times, Shah Rukh Khan opened his heart about Kajol’s rejection. Masala quoted the actor, “There’s this film by Abbas-Mustan in which I’d want Kajol to star opposite me. But she says she has no dates till September. If that doesn’t happen, we won’t be able to work with each other at least for the entire year.”

Commenting on the rumors about Ajay Devgn not wanting Kajol to work with him, the actor mentioned, “I wouldn’t really know if Ajay has put any condition. If Kajol doesn’t work with me because Ajay does not want her to, I will respect it. But I don’t really think this has happened. It’s quite strange. If Gauri was an actress, I wouldn’t tell her whom to work with and who not to.”
After Kajol rejected the Abbas Mastan film despite Baazigar being such a hit, her mother Tanuja was approached with the same question. Why the SRK ban? The veteran actress was once attending a party when the media blasted her with the question. She was furious and replied, “What rubbish! My daughter is old enough to know what she’s doing. Go, ask her; I am here to attend a party.”
However, reports suggest that later, Tanuja made sure that her daughter made the best and most logical professional and personal decisions in her life. Tanuja’s interference amidst the news of Ajay Devgn’s No Shah Rukh Khan film dictate for Kajol worked since the actress soon signed Kuch Kuch Hota Hai with SRK, which was helmed by Karan Johar.
Kajol married Ajay Devgn in 1999 and almost withdrew from the industry after Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham and later chose Fanaa over Kabhi Alvida Naa Kehna.
