Ram Gopal Varma has given Hindi cinema some very memorable films. But the filmmaker is not new to controversies. The Satya filmmaker has found himself in a legal soup yet again and this time it is due to his next release, Murder.
Murder is allegedly based on true life events of a man called Pranay Kumar’s honour killing in 2018 in the Nalgonda district. It is now being reported that Pranay’s father has filed a petition against Ram Gopal Varma for this film.
A certain report of PTI has quoted a district police officer on the same saying, “We have booked filmmaker Ram Gopal Varma following a court order for his upcoming movie ‘Murder’, which is based on sensational caste-based Pranay Kumar’s murder that occurred in Miryalguda, Nalgonda District in September 2018. Pranay’s father Balaswamy has filed a petition in Nalgonda Court stating that the film will affect the on-going trial of Pranay’s murder case and the film should be stalled. We’ve registered a case under the relevant section of SC/ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Amendment Act and taken up the investigation.”
