Exclusive! Maidaan Actress Priyamani Reveals If Reports Of Replacing Keerthy Suresh Bothered Her, “When You Are On That Project…”
In an exclusive interview with Koimoi, we asked the Maidaan actress if she was apprehensive about taking up the role or if the news of replacing Keerthy Suresh never bothered her.
Maidaan, starring Ajay Devgn, Priyamani, Gajraj Rao, and others, will release in theatres on April 10, 2024. It’s a sports biographical drama based on the life of Indian football coach, Syed Abdul Rahim. Directed by Amit Sharma, Ajay plays Syed Abdul Rahim in the film, and Priyamani plays his wife.
Before Priyamani, the role of Ajay Devgn’s on-screen wife was initially offered to Keerthy Suresh. However, Amit Sharma recently revealed that he couldn’t proceed with Keerthy because the actress had lost a lot of weight. Sharma wanted Rahim’s wife to look a particular way, and the actress was no longer the right fit for the character. Eventually, Priyamani bagged the role. The actress is receiving praises for her performance in Maidaan.
In an exclusive interview with Koimoi, we asked the Maidaan actress if she was apprehensive about taking up the role or if the news of replacing Keerthy Suresh never bothered her. Priyamani answered, “It didn’t bother me. I don’t think it should bother anybody, for that matter. When you are on that project, it is your project. Irrespective of whether you’ve been a replacement or not, it didn’t bother me.”
Further, about her character in Maidaan, the actress reveals, “The character’s name is Syra. She plays Rahim Sahab’s wife. She’s his backbone in the film; she’s his confidant. She gives him a right nudge when need be. It’s not just because they wanted a family; they’ve established a family. There is something for the family also in the film. Because the unity… they stand together as a unit, they fight together as a unit. The sacrifices they made to see to it that Rahim Sahab’s dreams and wishes are fulfilled, I think that also plays an integral part in the story.”

Meanwhile, Maidan is Priyamani’s second Bollywood release of 2024. She earlier starred in Article 370, which also features Yami Gautam. Last year, the actress was seen in Jawan, which stars Shah Rukh Khan, Nayanthara, Sanya Malhotra and Vijay Sethupathi.
