The Deepika Padukone-starrer Chhapaak, based on Laxmi Agarwal an acid attack survivor, has been restrained by the Delhi High Court! The order came after the makers released the film without giving due credits to releasing without giving credit to lawyer Aparna Bhat. Aparna represented Laxmi in her legal battle.

Justice Pratibha M. Singh on Saturday directed that the restraint will be effective from January 15 for multiplexes and live streaming apps while for other platforms it would be effective from January 17.

When IANS tried reaching the film’s director Meghna Gulzar, her office said the filmmaker reserves comment because the matter is in court.

Chhapaak is co-produced by Meghna, Deepika Padukone and Fox Star Studios. Fox Star has approached the High Court against the trial court order directing them to give credits to the contributions of Advocate Aparna Bhat as the lawyer of the real-life acid attack survivor.

An official statement on the matter on behalf of Fox Studios is expected to be issued soon.

The makers during the hearing on Friday told the high court that Bhat had no legal right, statutory or contractual, to seek acknowledgment for her contribution in the film in the form of consultation, inputs, and documents.
