While Shah Rukh Khan turns 46 years old today (November 2), I decided to take a look and chart out a few pointers for anyone who wants to emulate the Bollywood superstar. If you got anything to add, feel free to use the comments section below:
Shah Rukh Khan started out as a Delhi-import in the tinsel town, having done a little bit of theatre and some television. He hails from a middle class family, just like most of the yesteryear superstars.
If there is one thing Shah Rukh Khan’s co-workers, friends and even enemies agree on, it is his seemingly endless energy. From doing a cartwheel in a song in Dil Se, to running around so fast that the camera couldn’t catch up with him in Kuch Kuch Hota Hai, SRK has always exhibited the killer streak. Anecdotal evidence suggests that the King Khan slept for only about 3-4 hours during the making of Ra.One, when he was busy shooting for a TV show, cheering his IPL team, trying to rope in foreign stars… all at the same time!
For a man who once made no bones about making appearances at marriages, if he is paid well enough, Shah Rukh Khan comes across as the numero uno marketer in Bollywood today. He is media-friendly, smiles at all the right moments, and has the money and capability to make do unprecedented promotion of his films (My Name Is Khan, Ra.One). The key lesson here is that one should never be shy of selling oneself.
Shah Rukh Khan might not be from the industry, but his parties are where everybody (even members of the established Bollywood families) are happy to be seen. Whether it is his filmi parties (like the one where Akon crooned for the A-listers) or his IPL bashes, SRK knows how to make and keep friends. Many in the industry swear by his friendship. One of the biggest directors sees him as a father figure! Of course, we are not talking about the other two Khans here, who, by themselves, make institutions that are, in many ways, completely different from the SRK-way of life.
Ask any of SRK’s unit members and they’ll tell you that while working, SRK is as normal a guy as normal can be. In other words, he is still, in some ways, the Delhi boy who dreamed of making it big in movies. Shah Rukh Khan respects each and every member’s contribution to his films (which usually employ at least 2-3 thousand people). In fact, he is known to greet unit members with a quick jhappi now and then. Not to talk about the after-shoot parties where he gladly dances with them into the wee hours of the morning!
