‘Mere Dost Picture Abhi Baki Hai’ is a movie that not many would have heard of as it has suddenly come out of thin. Since the assumption is that many would not even be aware of the film, a brief is certainly required. To begin with, the film is directed by Rajnish Thakur and produced by Narendra Singh. The film stars Suniel Shetty, UditaGoswami, RajpalYadav and Om Puri in lead roles amongst others while Rajendra Shiv, Parvez Qasar-Subash Pradhan and Sukhwinder Singh contribute with tunes. It is easy to conclude from the promos though that it’s an outdated product and was shot over half a decade back.
Album begins with the title track ‘Picture Abhi Baki Hai’. Shabab Sabri has sung the song and honestly, this one has an old charm to it with lyrics penned by Ravi Chopra working as well even though it isn’t in synch with today’s techno and hip hop generation. Song portrays the plot of the movie effectively and sets expectations quite precisely for the audience. Though it’s not a song which promises to be a hit, it still turns out to be apt enough for this movie.
Sunidhi Chauhan takes the album forward in her sexy voice with ‘Salaame-E-Ishq’. It’s a foot tapping number which Sunidhi tries to pep up further with her inherent style. Subhash Pradhan has composed this track with Swati Shree Sharma as the lyricist. An average track, it also suffers from being outdated.
‘Chala Hai Joshi’ is based on the central protagonist Suniel Shetty whose name is Amar Joshi in the movie. It seems like a song where the story moves forward in different montages while it is played in the background. Parvez Qasar has done a decent job as a singer while lyrics and music are catchy too, hence enabling a listener to hold his attention. A good attempt by music composers Parvez Qasar and Subhash Pradhan.
They continue to do well in the slower version ‘Koi Na Samjha’ as well which has certain sadness to it and conveys the frustration of the protagonist. A theme-based number, it would in all likelihood play during his trying and difficult times.
Sukhvinder Singh makes an entry in the album as a singer and composer along with Sunidhi Chauhan in ‘Its Rain Rain’. Moreover veteran Sameer contributes from this track onwards as lyricist. It’s a sweet romantic number with good melody, which you won’t mind listening to a few times. However, the wait still continues for a bona fide chartbuster.
‘Sanam Sanam’ is the next to come which is sung by Shradha Pandit and Shaan. It’s a track which reminds you of the tracks from the 90s, case in point being ‘Ya Mustfa’ (Aatish). However it does not offer anything original to the listener. It’s a track which might have made its presence felt in 90s but today’s listener has grown out of such compositions and only a few retro listeners might appreciate it.
Album ends with ‘Zindagi Mere Paas’ which is sung by Sukhivinder himself. It’s a song which definitely showcases the vocal ability of the singer. However it fails on the composition level which is not smooth and seems like an amalgamation of two or three other tracks. It also reminds one of Sukhvinder’s ‘Nasha Hi Nasha Hai’ days, though one has to admit that the song has far lesser ‘nasha’ in it. Lyrics do manage to convey the desperate emotions in the protagonist’s life though.
Over all, it’s an album which might have worked in the bygone era but would struggle in today’s times. Even with the big names like Sukhvinder Singh, Sunidhi Chauhan and Sameer, the album does not offer anything extraordinary. Bright part of the album is that it’s a theme-based comedy that might not require music for its popularity.
