After decades apart, Malcolm Winters and Stephanie Simmons will reunite on The Young and the Restless. The characters are back and will be reprised by their original actors, Shemar Moore and Vivica Fox. Shemar last played Malcolm in 2023, while Vivica left the show in 1996.
Malcolm has made quick guest appearances over the years on the daytime drama, but this will be the first time in 20 years he will come face-to-face with Stephanie, his former lover. Here’s what to expect from this storyline and how these respective returns will fuel some major drama on Y&R.

Shemar feels grateful to have the chance to visit Genoa City from time to time. “I feel humbled and honored and nostalgic,” he told TV Insider and revealed they asked him to return for a “cool little story” but gave him 124 pages of script to memorize for a mere three days of work.

“Even when I was Malcolm for real all those years back, I never did 124 pages,” the actor joked. He is excited to get the chance to dive back into what was left unsaid when Stephanie left town after Malcolm, and she broke up. The soap star found it interesting, soapy, dramatic, and fun to play.
On reuniting with Vivica, Shemar said, “It was really just a reunion of sorts, a party of sorts, to celebrate what Young and Restless has done for us, to really give us momentum in the game to continue to pursue our dreams.” He is grateful to have been out of work for only 4 months during his 33-year career.
“I pinch myself. I never take it for granted. I never get bored. I’m glad I’m not the biggest star in the world. I don’t want that kind of hype,” he mused and added that he prefers the steady climb that lets his career affect the lives of people by being a part of their living rooms consistently over time.
Fans are already making theories about Holden Novak being Malcolm and Stephanie’s son. It remains to be seen if this theory will hold and become a reality on the soap opera The Young and the Restless or not.
