Another episode of The Great Indian Kapil Show has aired, and I am still waiting for the jokes to make me laugh. But the only thing that gets offered is cringe and some more cringe. This week, cricketers Rohit Sharma and Shreyas Iyer made their appearance on the show amidst the IPL fever.
There was a time when cross-dressing by comedians was fun and created laughter, but it might be a passe thing, or probably the next step to every cross-dressing joke is crossing the thin line between fun and discomfort.
This week, the line was clearly crossed when Sunil Grover tried to create laughter as an engineer undressed into a cheerleader, opening his jumpsuit and turning into a skin show of a short skirt and a crop tank.

Amidst all this, trying too hard to instill laughter, Kapil Sharma made sure to crack some read-between-the-lines and double-meaning jokes. It seemed that Sunil Grover might save this sinking ship when he arrived as Kapil Dev, and the episode saw a little bit of hope when Kapil Sharma arrived as Navjot Singh Sidhu, mimicking him to the finesse.
However, before Kapil Sharma and Sunil Grover put up an entertaining act, the show came to an abrupt end, leaving the viewers confused. Generally, while the guests try to indulge in the humor, Rohit Sharma, his wife Ritika, and Shreyas Iyer seem visibly uncomfortable and embarrassed at the adult jokes and the lame humor.
Meanwhile, our hearts went out to Rajiv Thakur, who constantly, for the second time, has been wiped out in the show, and one cannot make out if he exists in the show or not. There were again some repeated jokes on Archana Puran Singh’s paycheck and her judge seat, but the recalls now do not seem to interest or make anyone laugh anymore!
There came an abrupt cut when Rohit Sharma made an exit from the episode, and the episode itself ended abruptly. The next episode seems to be fun with Diljit Dosanjh and Amar Singh Chamkila’s team. Meanwhile, we are still waiting for Kapil Sharma and his team to arrive.
But till then, probably Netflix might clarify: is this really supposed to be a comedy show or a talk show? Because, currently, it is neither!
