Described as Jai-Veeru of Cricket, Vinod Kambli and Sachin Tendulkar have always been the inspiration for many about how they both made it big together and maintained a good bond since childhood. We see both of them showing mutual respect for each other however, there was a certain period in between when the duo didn’t see eye to eye. The differences between both first came out on the reality show, Sach Ka Saamna, hosted by Rajeev Khandelwal.
As we all know, the show during its run, stirred up several controversies and was eventually called off despite garnering good television ratings. As per the format, one has to answer the truth of some personal questions in front of people. During one such episode, Vinod Kambli graced the seat as a contestant and was asked, “Do you believe Sachin could have done more to save you from your self-destructive behaviour?”. Kambli’s answer surprised everyone as he said ‘Yes’. But that’s not it, do you exactly recall what he said that created controversy?
Adding to the same answer, Kambli uttered, “I was Jai (Amitabh) from Sholay and Sachin was Veeru, Jai Ko Har Baar Sacrifice Kar Deni Padi, Har Baar Marta Gaya (Jai always sacrificed and suffered at every point)”.

Apart from mincing sour words on the reality show, Kambli also shared about Sachin’s farewell speech post last test match, where he didn’t even mention his name while thanking everyone. “I am deeply hurt. I was expecting my name to be part of his farewell speech. If anything for our famous partnership. Its that world record partnership that was the turning point of our careers. That’s when everyone came to know who is Vinod and Sachin. I had a hand in that and our careers started from there. I thought he could have mentioned that part at least,” he spoke with Headlines Today in 2013.
