We have a Hero and a Heroine! Both fall in love! End of story?? Oh no! Wait; there is someone whose approval is mandatory-The khadoos brother/s. And the hero tries too hard to impress the brother in order to get his girl, sometimes even undergoing a lot of pain. This is one of the most aptly seen mantra used in Bollywood Films.
We, here at Koimoi, bring for you, a few films which revolve around this age-old adage.
This 2007 Bolly masala, directed by Anees Bazmee, was a twined take on the Hero-wooing-the-brother. In the beginning of the film, we see Uday (Nana Patekar), trying to get Rajiv (Akshay) to marry Sanjana(Katrina), but soon the plot changes, and it is Akshay who tries by all means to convince Nana to renounce the world of crime. This potpourri of pataofying each other tickles funny bones for sure.
Sajid Khan and his gang, brings for the audiences a house full of lies in this 2010 cine. It is where we see Akshay, building a castle of lies, with help from Ritesh and Lara, to woo Deepika’s Anna, played by Arjun Rampal. The Panauti-pan, and the muddled state, is a sure entertainer, in a comic way.
The film that brought Salman and Kajol, on screen first time ever, was a cult film on the idea of buttering the brother to get the girl. Salman, does everything possible to prove to Arbaaz, that his love for Muskaan is real and he can do anything to keep her happy.
Well! In this one, there are two heroes (Ajay Devgn and Sanjay Dutt) who try to impress the brother (Amitabh Bachchan), in their own ways, to prove their love for Komal (Aishwariya Rai). Directed by David Dhawan, this 2002 movie reinvented the formula and presented it all in typical Dhawan style.
All mayhem starts when Rajveer (Jackky Bhagnani) falls for Madhuri( Nidhi Subbaiah) and realizes she hates rich people. In order to impress her, he pretends to be very poor, and then enters Madhuri’s brother Karan (Arjun Rampal). So Rajveer after pataofying Madhuri also tries his hand to impress her brother.
Not only did this enter the 100 crore club, but also with the series of goof ups along with underlying storyline of trying to impress, rather, fool heroine’s brother(Ajay), Bol Bachchan, presented the idea in a round-about manner.
Double Govinda, double Amitabh Bachchan, but one Govinda (Pyare) falls for one Amitabh’s sister Seema (Raveena Tandon). And he subtly, on various occasions,tries to impress Arjun Singh (Amitabh) to win his ladylove.
This 1998 romantic film by Priyadarshan, daintily dealt with the plot. There was a trio of heroine’s brothers who were dead against the union of Inder (Akshaye Khanna) and Pallavi (Jyothika). Both of them did elope in the beginning, but soon returned to their families and managed to get their approval for marriage.
The same movie of 1995, in which Madhuri dances to ‘ Ankhiya milau kabhi ankhiya churau’ was a twisted tale of love, with a part where Raja (Sanjay Kapoor) proves to Madhu’s (Madhuri’s) brothers, his love for their sister, by undergoing a lot of torment and pain. They make him do severe things, but after a lot of wax and wane, in the end, they finally approve of their love.
What seems from the trailers is a film built around the classic idea. Directed by Prabhudeva, Ramaiya Vastavaiya, is a story where Ram (Girish Kumar), after charming Sona (Shruti Hasan), has a task in hand to win over Sona’s elder brother (Sonu Sood). We are certain that ultimately Ram will be able to woo Sona’s brother, but what will be interesting to know is, how he manages to do so?
