I Me aur Main is a romantic comedy starring John Abraham, Chitrangada Singh and Prachi Desai. Produced by Goldie Behl and Shristi Arya, this slice of life film has been directed by first timer Kapil Sharma. The music has been composed by Sachin-Jigar with guest compositions from Falak Shabir, Gourov Dasgupta and Raghav Sachar. A host of writers including Mayur Puri, Kausar Munir, Kumaar, Manthan and Prashant Ingole have contributed to the lyrics for this album. The hope is that this album should not turn out to be a case of too many cooks spoiling the broth.
The album opens with the lively and energetic Naa Jaane Kahaan Se sung by Neeraj Shreedhar and Anushka Manchanda. The hit Chaalbaaz number has been recreated with new sounds and fun lyrics with the focus of the song shifting to the guy. It has been a good idea on the part of the makers to start the promotions of the film with this foot tapping number. The music video featuring the lead stars, currently on air, does more than enough justice for this highly energetic soundtrack and is sure to be a chartbuster like the original Sridevi number.
The second song of this album Saajna manages to shift tracks to a more somber mood. Pakistani singer-composer, Falak Shabir manages to infuse pathos in this song about lost love and wistfulness. The nasal twang is a minor irritant in an otherwise well composed number. The increasing presence of Pakistani singers in Hindi films augurs well for the film industry in terms of influx of fresh talent and at the same time gives these singers a wider platform to gain more recognition which would have otherwise been limited in their native country.
The album shifts back to a catchy Capuchino which also happens to be the title track of this album. Upcoming singer Abhishek Nehwal sings this peppy and foot tapping number. Though he has given a satisfactory rendition, one does get the feeling that this song might have had more impact on the listener had the energy levels been a tad higher. This being the title track, one does feel let down especially because it had all the ingredients needed to become a hit.
Next in line is Darbadar which is a melancholic song with classical undertones sung by Monali Thakur. This former Indian Idol contestant has indeed come a long way from her “Zara Zara Touch Me” days. Showcasing her comfort level with a variety of genres, she has once again proved her versatility in a song which was in no way an easy one to perform. The lyrics by Mayur Puri convey the despondency and loneliness brought out by heartbreak and Monali Thakur does full justice in her rendition.
Shifting gears to romance, Meri Jaaniye brings out the passionate side in Monali Thakur. Along with the supremely talented but highly underrated Shaan, she excels in what is yet another romantic song. The lyrics by Manthan talks about everlasting love and passion and Gourov Dasgupta‘s composition is pleasant on the ears. But there surely is a sense of déjà vu on hearing this track and is not something that can be classified as a memorable number by any standard.
The penultimate track is the Nasha Nasha sung by Neha Bhaseen and has a ‘Touch me Touch me’ hangover to it. Prashant Ingole’s lyrics seem to suggest that John Abraham is getting seduced by one of his two lovely leading ladies. Raghav Sachar’s composition is very ordinary and is not something that will linger in your mind after a period of time.
The final track in this album is the unplugged version of Saajna which somehow seems to be more in sync with the mood and tone of this number than the other version. Kumaar’s lyrics create more of an impact when heard as an unplugged version.
Overall, I, Me aur Main has a couple of good numbers with the standout number being the re-jigged version of Naa Jaane Kahaan Se along with Darbadar. But, in the context of the film being a romantic comedy and also considering the fact that this album has brought together various talents from the music industry, there is a sense of disappointment that their talents have not been fully utilized and as such expectations have not been met.
