From the first trailer itself, Lootera has woven a tapestry of romance and mystery. There are very few such trailers that leave by that compelling feeling which screams that such a movie must not be missed. Personally, I have a strong inclination towards drama and art films and mainstream Bollywood usually has very little to offer of that. However, coming from the director whose first film Udaan, was wonderfully crafted genius, Vikramaditya Motwane’s Lootera looks equally promising. Set in the 50s’ the film wonderfully traps Bengal’s rustic beauty of palaces and pujas.
Actor Ranveer Singh is going to have a grand 2013 too. Taking a long honeymoon period off Bollywood, the Band Baaja Baarat actor is back with Lootera. Combed back hair, clean shaven look, Ranveer effortlessly seems to have adapted Varun. Starkly different from any of the previous roles he has played, the character and look of Varun is conspicuous to the era he belongs to! Lootera marks the return of Singh after a long break he took from the industry after Ladies VS Ricky Bahl and hence its success would work as a strong impetus for his upcoming films Gunday and Ram Leela.

Sonakshi Sinha who usually has the tendency of wasting herself in films where her role is minimal finally seems to work in something that does justice to her talent. As Pakhi, Sinha’s journey in Bollywood would be enhanced as she gets established and weighed in terms of her caliber as an actress! From falling hopelessly in love to have a painful heartbreak, Sonakshi has it in her to give Pakhi some soul.
Based on O Henry’s The Last Leaf, the film’s premise is both enticing and mysterious. It is crafted with oodles of romanticism, the success of its implementation depends on Motwane’s cinematic vision. How the story wraps up is yet to unveil but by the beautiful look of it, it would be hard to miss a film like this!
Amit Trivedi’s music stands as one of the foremost reasons why Lootera has managed to strike an optimistically positive chord. Rendering S.D Burman’s melody to his songs, the music of the film is a masterpiece! Surely Bollywood music has turned obscene and rude, but with albums like Lootera you are assured that good work is never obsolete here.
My reasons for watching Lootera would be Vikramaditya Motwane and a wonderfully passionate chemistry between its lead artistes. I wouldn’t want to miss this one and I recommend you don’t either!
