We know Charlie Hunnam for his unbeatable performance as Jax Teller in Sons of Anarchy. But do you know that he got to be the part of The Lost City of Z because Brad Pitt refused to play Col. Percival Fawcett in the movie? Read on to know the full story.
Reportedly, the Lost City of Z is based on the true story of Col. Percival Fawcett, who was an Army Officer and British explorer in the early 20th century. The film stars Sienna Miller as Fawcett’s wife, Tom Holland as Fawcett’s son and Robert Pattinson as Fawcett’s dishevelled assistant.
Talking to Extra, Charlie Hunnam said that he could become a part of The Lost City of Z only because of Brad Pitt. He told the publication that it was only after Brad pulled out, they called him. The actor even mentioned that he is very “grateful” that Brad decided to say no to the project as an actor. However, Brad stayed on the project as a producer.
Well, there is no doubt that Charlie Hunnam gave one of the best performances in The Lost City of Z. But do you know that the actor lost contact with his girlfriend for almost five months while he was shooting for the film?
Charlie Hunnam told Entertainment Weekly, “We went to Colombia, and the mail system doesn’t really work very well. It’s completely unreliable. I received a letter from her, and I realized that from the tone of it and things she was saying that she hadn’t received the two letters that I sent before.”
But the separation truly helped Charlie Hunnam give a better performance. He said, “One of the things that (director James Gray) and I felt strongly that we wanted to explore in the film was the conflict between family life and the exterior demands that are made on us and the social and economic demands that we all need to deal with in life, being balanced or in conflict with the internal drive, to be the people we want to be and achieve the things that we want to achieve.”
