Titanic by James Cameron has given the audience an epic love story, and its main leads, Leonardo DiCaprio and Kate Winslet, immense fame. However, one of the most controversial things about this classic movie is whether Jack could fit alongside Rose on the door towards the end of the film. For years, the debate has been going on, and it has led the director to analyze it more to reach a definitive conclusion. But keeping that aside, this door is as popular as the leads in this film, and it has now been sold at an astronomical amount at an auction.
The movie was not only a critical success but also a commercial one. This Cameron-helmed film has won eleven Oscars and is among the highest-grossing films of all time. It was released in 1997. After the ship collapses, Jack asks Rose to get on the door to survive the freezing Atlantic waters. However, both Rose and the viewers realize that Jack won’t be able to share the space, and he eventually dies of hypothermia.
The infamous door from Titanic went up for auction at the Heritage Auctions’ Treasures from Planet Hollywood event. Other auctioned movie props included Indiana Jones’ whip from The Temple of Doom, the chiffon dress worn by Kate Winslet, and the ax from The Shining.
