Dune 2 released in theatres on March 1. The Denis Villeneuve film is based on Frank Herbert’s novel of the same name. It stars Timothee Chalamet as Paul Atreides, Zendaya as Chani, Rebecca Ferguson as Lady Jessica, Stellan Skarsgård as Baron Vladimir Harkonnen, Javier Bardem as Stilgar, Dave Bautista as Glossu Rabban Harkonnen and Josh Brolin as Gurney Halleck. The second part is receiving great reviews worldwide.
The sequel also has some new actors playing pivotal roles in it. In the Timothee starrer, Austin Butler plays Feyd-Rautha Harkonnen and Florence Pugh essays Princess Irulan. Christopher Walken joined the cast as Shaddam IV (the Padishah Emperor), and Lea Seydoux played Lady Margot Fenring. While the names of these actors and characters were revealed already, one actor whose cameo and character were kept a secret is Anya Taylor-Joy.
In one of the interviews last week, Dune 2 director Denis Villeneuve confirmed that Anya is indeed a part of the sequel. However, he wanted to see how long will it remain a secret as that’s a tough thing to do nowadays. The actress made an appearance during the sequel’s special screening in New York. So, Anya is indeed a part of the film and appears in one of the most riveting moments.

In Dune: Part Two, Anya plays Alia Atreides, Paul Atreides’ sister. After Lady Jessica drinks the Water of Life and becomes the Fremen’s Reverend Mother, the child in her womb communicates with her. In the last hour of Denis’ film, when Paul drinks the Water of Life, a girl tells him that she will show him their family history.
Paul’s future vision reveals that the girl is Alia Atreides, his sister. In the film, when Alia walks with Paul through the desert and takes him to a vast ocean, she tells him, “I’m with you, and I love you”. That’s when Paul learns that Vladimir Harkonnen is Lady Jessica’s father and Baron Harkonnen is his grandfather. Basically, he’s a Harkonnen too.
Will Anya Be A Part of Dune 3?
Denis Villeneuve plans to make Dune 3 based on Frank Herbert’s Dune Messiah book. The story takes place 12 years after the first book. If the threequel is confirmed, we might see Anya return as Alia in the film. It would be interesting to see if Denis keeps the 12-year leap or takes it a few more years ahead. Anya’s role in the third part can only be confirmed by Denis and Warner Bros.
