The Netflix film Damsel was released on March 8. The fantasy period drama stars Millie Bobby Brown as Elodie, Angela Bassett as Lady Bayford, Nick Robinson as Prince Henry, Ray Winstone as Lord Bayford, Robin Wright as Queen Isabelle and Brooke Carter as Queen Isabelle. Dan Mazeau wrote the story, and Juan Carlos Fresnadillo directed the film.
In Damsel, after marrying Prince Henry, Elodie is thrown into a cave as a ruthless ancestral royal tradition. A fire-spitting dragon resides inside the cave. The Dragon kills the princesses of the royal family. Elodie does everything she can to fight and save herself. But does she defeat the Dragon? Read on.
Damsel Ending Explained
The main idea of Netflix’s Damsel is to show that the Princess in this movie has no Prince coming to save her. So Elodie often finds ways to protect herself from the fire-spitting Dragon. Towards the end, we learn that the Dragon has a grudge against the royal family. It is revealed that ages ago, the members of the royal family killed the only three children, thus putting an end to the Dragon’s bloodline.

Elodie keeps telling the Dragon that she doesn’t belong to Prince Henry’s bloodline. But the Dragon refuses to believe her. Eventually, Elodie finds a map of the cave and often outsmarts the beastly creature. Her father, Lord Bayford and his men also come to the rescue. Unfortunately, the Dragon kills her father. Elodie manages to escape from the cave,
Nevertheless, Queen Isabelle learns that Elodie has escaped from the Dragon’s grasp. She forces Elodie’s younger sister Floria to marry her son as they promised the royal family a bride. Floria is thrown into the caverns, just like Elodie. Our Damsel is informed by their stepmother, Lady Bayford, that her younger sister is now in distress. Elodie has no choice but to go back to the cave and save her younger sister.
Millie Bobby Brown’s Elodie prevails against the Dragon in the cave. She tells the Dragon that he is no different than the royal family as he has been killing innocent souls all these years. She informs the beast that the Princesses’ hands are mixed with royal blood when the royal family slashes their hand with a knife. But none of the girls belonged to the royal family. Hearing how he has been killing harmless people for all this time breaks the Dragon’s heart.

Damsel Ending Explained: Elodie & The Dragon Get A Happy Ending!
The Dragon now listens to everything Elodie says. She returns to the palace where Princess Henry is marrying another girl for the third time. The Dragon gets revenge by killing Queen Isabelle and everyone from the royal family. The movie ends with Elodie, Floria and their stepmother, Lady Bayford, boarding a ship back home. The Dragon also joins the trio, as their guard.
Is Damsel 2 On The Cards?
The movie has a happy ending, and Elodie emerges as a warrior. So, the makers can now use Millie Bobby Brown’s character and the Dragon in various adventures. Director Juan Carlos Fresnadillo shared that he would love to make a sequel to the Netflix film.
The director told Inside Total Film, “I mean, I will be so happy to do a sequel for Damsel. But obviously, we have to wait to see what the audience thinks and how they react to the movie. It’s true that the universe of Damsel is really open. Especially because, you know, of the new configuration of the family. In the story [there’s] this new member, we shouldn’t say too much about that [but] it invites you to think about more adventures with them. So definitely, if that happens, I will be so happy to make it for sure.”
We will have to wait for Netflix and the makers to confirm this officially.
