Avengers: Endgame, Infinity War Writer Revisits The Martin Scorsese Controversy & HITS Back At His Statement

We all remember how fans got divided into two when Martin Scorsese labelled Marvel movies as “not cinema”. Avengers: Endgame writer Christopher Marcus has opened the old books to read out the same chapter and respond to it in his style.
Speaking about Martin’s controversial statement, he wrote an opinionated piece in NY Times clarifying his stance. In which he wrote, “I’ve tried to watch a few of them and that they’re not for me, that they seem to me to be closer to theme parks than they are to movies as I’ve known and loved them throughout my life, and that in the end, I don’t think they’re cinema.”
Avengers: Endgame & Infinity War’s writer Christopher Marcus was answering fan questions through Comicbook.com’s Twitter account. A fan asked whether he was aware of the impact of Tony Stark and Peter Parker’s moment on the fans.
To which he said, “Yes. Because we all love these characters. It’s why these movies work. It’s one of the reasons that they’re, you know, cinema.”
Well, that’s a clear and indirect dig to Martin Scorsese’s “not cinema” comment. Though Martin had articulately ended his opinionated piece by saying, “For anyone who dreams of making movies or who is just starting out, the situation at this moment is brutal and inhospitable to art. And the act of simply writing those words fills me with terrible sadness.”
