Avengers’ Black Widow Scarlett Johansson On NOT Being First Choice For The Role: “Made A Career Out Of Being A 2nd Choice”

Scarlett Johansson, our very own Black Widow from Avengers, was not really the first choice for the role. The Devil Wear Prada actress Emily Blunt was almost finalised as Black Widow but she had to turn the role down to scheduling reasons.
Since then Scarlett Johansson was finalised for the role and as they say, the rest is history. We haven’t heard much from Scarlett on this topic. But she has opened up about this whole journey of rejection for the role she’s known for today.
In a conversation with Parade, she talked about how acting was in her since childhood. She said, “I disappeared into those movies and took on those characters. Since a very young age, I’ve been rejected constantly. When people starting out ask me for advice, I always say to stay open-minded, because you never know.”
Despite her breakthrough performance in Lost In Transition, Scarlett Johansson never really enjoyed the “I’ve made it” moment. She says, “I’ve never felt that I had both feet out, you know? I never imagined having another career, but there were definitely times when I felt like I should try something else in the industry.”
She admitted that she wasn’t the first choice for playing Black Widow in Iron Man 2. Though she was pretty pumped up working with the director Jon Favreau. She added, “And I was really excited to work with him, so I said, ‘If this doesn’t work out, I’m an actor for hire, so call me anytime.’”
Before her, Emily Blunt turned down the role to which Scarlett said, “The best call you can receive is after you are rejected for something and then you get it. You appreciate it more. I’ve basically made a career out of being the second choice.”
