Mahendra Singh Dhoni aka MS Dhoni doesn’t need any introduction. His popularity is unmatchable and while the star player is on the verge of taking a retirement from Indian Premier League (IPL), he’s still among the biggest crowd pullers. Dhoni has been a part of IPL ever since the cricket league started. From the first edition onwards, the star cricketer has been a part of Chennai Super Kings (CSK). Except for two years (2016 and 2017), during which CSK was banned, Dhoni was a part of Rising Pune Supergiants. But after the ban was lifted, he again returned to the camp of CSK.
During the first season of IPL, MS Dhoni was bought by CSK at a price of 6 crores. For the same price, he was retained by the franchise for the next two years. In 2011, Dhoni’s salary was increased upto 8.28 crores and with the same annual remuneration, he remained with the team for the next two years.
In 2014, MS Dhoni again got a hike and his salary went up to 12.50 crores. At the same amount, Dhoni was retained by the franchise for one more season and then in 2016, CSK faced a ban for two years. The cricket veteran joined the camp of Rising Pune Supergiants and remained with the franchise for two seasons for the same amount.
In 2018, MS Dhoni returned to CSK, and he got the biggest salary of his IPL career, which was 15 crores. With the same price, he played for the franchise in 2021. In 2022, he was retained but the price was decreased to 12 crores. For 2023 and even for this season, he got the same amount.
Here, we can see that MS Dhoni’s peak salary is 15 crores. While the amount is huge, it’s lower than what Virat Kohli got at his peak. For those who don’t know, Virat’s highest salary is 17 crores, which he received in 2017.
