It seems like a very plain question, the answer to which cannot be anything but a unanimous yes. But, for Kick to achieve that 200 crore mark, it is going to take a good deal of toiling.
For starters, Salman Khan had a dull year, or rather the first half, as it started with Jai Ho‘s underwhelming performance. However, Salman’s ‘dull’ too isn’t a flop show but a 100 crore plus movie, which doesn’t match up to the expectations of his audiences. This is how Superstars roll in the industry.
Kick, which is expected to cross the mark by adding today’s business, will be Salman’s 7th consecutive film entering the coveted 100 crore club. The feat that is a challenge for most Superstars is quite a cakewalk for Salman who has given back to back hits from Dabangg to Ready to Bodyguard to Ek Tha Tiger to Dabangg 2. Even Jai Ho that could not recover the investment made its way into the 100 crore club.
Though Ek Tha Tiger made 198 crores, Salman missed the 200 crore mark by a bit. Aamir Khan whose 3 Idiots was the first film to join 200 crore club now has two films above 200 crore range, Dhoom 3 and 3 Idiots. Even Shah Rukh Khan’s record smashing success from last Eid – Chennai Express catapulted him straight into the 200 crore club.
Luckily for Salman, there is no other film in the vicinity to compete with Kick this week. The two week window is a brilliant advantage for the movie. Though Akshay Kumar starrer Entertainment is releasing on the 8th, the low buzz of the film won’t deter Kick much that is establishing itself well in the single screens as well as the multiplexes.
The film which is now nearing the 100 crore border, has high chances to cross over into the 200 crore club given Salman’s enticing chemistry with Jacqueline Fernandez, brilliant action and beguiling music. Will these elements make Kick a legendary and memorable film for Salman and give him his first 200 crore film?
