Kabir Khan is currently in a happy space ever since his film Bajrangi Bhaijaan became a massive success. The Salman Khan starrer not only rattled the box office with big numbers but also found a place in the audience’s hearts with its emotional story. Naturally, the film’s success fetched Kabir with a lot of compliments. His second film of the year, Phantom staring Katrina Kaif and Saif Ali Khan is now up for release this week. While the trailer of the film started off debates about it being similar to Kabir’s last Ek Tha Tiger and Neeraj Pandey’s Baby, we will soon get to know about it as the film hits the theatre this Friday.

Phantom is Kabir’s fifth film and the expectations are high because of Bajrangi Bhaijaan‘s success. A look at Kabir’s filmography shows that he has always been fond of subjects such as undercover agents, Pakistan and terrorism. His first film Kabul Express (2006) dealt with two Indian journalists taking off to Afghanistan for Taliban coverage. The film’s star cast included John Abraham and Arshad Warsi. Kabul Express was declared average at the box office but fetched good reviews among the niche audience.
His second film, New York released in 2009. This time he targeted the 9/11 incident and its aftermath. The film was received extremely well and was ranked number one during the first week of its release. Eventually, the film turned out to be the sixth highest grosser of the year, collecting Rs. 577,500,000.
Ever since New York, Kabir was on a roll and his next Ek Tha Tiger starring Salman Khan and Katrina Kaif turned out be a super-hit. The film made a lifetime business of 198 crores at the box office and made it to the 100 crore club over its first weekend itself, thus being one of the exceptionally successful films for Salman Khan.
The Salman – Kabir duo worked their magic once again with Bajrangi Bhaijaan but this time making a new record for the star as it entered the 300 crore club. Currently, the film is the highest grosser of the year with a collection of 318.06 crores at the domestic box office.
Well, looking at Kabir’s up-stride so far, it seems that Phantom too may taste success but may not be as fortunate as Bajrangi Bhaijaan since the approach of both films is quite different.
