Weekend Business of ‘Aisha’: Rs. 90 million

Weekend net collections of the PVR Pictures and Anil Kapoor Productions’ Aisha were Rs. 90 million approx., which is not a very good number. The film was not an expensive proposition for the producers, having been made at a price of Rs. 200-210 million, including the making, promotion and release of the film.

The producers have already recovered approx Rs. 75 -80 million approx. from the sale of satellite rights, Rs 20 million from the sale of music and home video rights.

Yet it leaves a shortfall of about Rs. 100 million to be received from overseas and India. The first weekend business of ‘Aisha’ was weak, and the film didn’t do well overseas either, except in Hong Kong.

Overall, Indian collections of ‘Aisha’ for the weekend of August 6 – August 9, were in the region of Rs. 90 million only. It’s not a very happy figure considering the producer’s share of 50 per cent; the weekend share for the producers is a meager Rs. 45 million.

Collections from Monday dropped. The weekend itself was not very good. Generally with such films, most of the business happens in the weekend and the weekdays are poor.

In spite of recovering money from the sale of satellite rights, the producers, PVR Pictures and Anil Kapoor Productions will lose money on the enterprise.
