Mary Kom starring Priyanka Chopra seems to have started off on a decent note. The morning show occupancy for the film has been recorded at around 30-35%. The film has been released over 3000 screens and has been made tax free in major circuits of Maharashtra, UP, Rajasthan and MP.
However, overall the opening is decent in all the circuits and considering it is a normal week day. The film is expected to pick up over late evening and especially over the weekend.
The single screens have a comparatively lower occupancy considering the film is not a typical commercial pot boiler. It’s a film that will appeal mostly with the urban circuits.
Mary Kom has created a lot of pre-release buzz and is expected to show a good jump over the weekend considering it is an inspiring tale. The film being a woman centric drama will be pitted against the likes of Queen, The Dirty Picture, English Vinglish and Heroine. It will be interesting to see if Mary Kom has a bigger opening among these films.
