It was a decent start for Madgaon Express at the box office as 1.63 crores came in. This is the kind of expectation that one had from the film, to begin with as well, since 1-2 crores were on the cards. Yes, there was a BOGO offer introduced as well, but still, that wouldn’t have meant a flying start or anything since for a film like this, which is a comedy and relies upon word of mouth to do the trick, the first challenge was to break that 1 crore barrier.
Of course, a lot more is yet to be done for the film. This one comes from a good production house (Excel Entertainment) and has a decent budget going for it. Also, if a theatrical release has been given to it, then it needs to bring in some sort of moolah, at least at the box office.
What could have happened wrong, though, was that the film could have turned out to be a complete non-starter since there are no stars per se in there, and is more of an ensemble affair with talented actors. However, it has managed to bring in some sort of footfall at least, and that’s good.
