Shah Rukh Khan, Aamir Khan & Salman Khan are three names who rule this industry. Currently, while SRK has redeemed his lost box office glory, Aamir has yet to make a comeback after the disastrous Laal Singh Chadha, and Salman is taking it slow after Tiger 3’s underwhelming box office. But there has been a time when the three superstars together ruled at the box office as well.

Despite the highs, all three superstars have experienced lows at the box office as well, but not quite at the same time. The major reason might be Aamir Khan, who usually took it slow and delivered one film a year or at a time in two years.

But there was a year when Shah Rukh Khan, Salman Khan, and Aamir Khan came together to deliver the worst Khan year of Bollywood with three disasters that were supposed to rock the box office.

Earlier, there have been times when either of the two performed disastrously, but the third one made up for the other two with a classic entertainer. But it was the most heartbreaking year for fans when none of the Khans offered a box office hit, in fact, delivered disasters.

2005 – The Dreadful Year

Before we talk about this unsuccessful year for the Khans, we need to see how they performed in the previous year – 2004. While Aamir was preparing for one of the biggest films of his career, Salman Khan was already hitting his low with a string of flops. Shah Rukh Khan was in one of his best highs with Veer Zara. Then came the disaster year 2005 when the Khans hit rock bottom with their respective films.

But guess who topped from the bottom? It was none other than Mr. Perfectionist Aamir Khan!

Shah Rukh Khan & Paheli

In 2005, it was Shah Rukh Khan who somehow managed and struggled to reach the finish line but passed out just a few meters before. Amol Palekar cast SRK and Rani Mukerji in this fantasy-drama that was mounted on a budget of 14 – 15 crore but earned only 11 – 12 crore at the box office. It struck a loss of almost 13 – 14%.

Salman Khan & Kyon Ki

Next in line was Salman Khan & Kareena Kapoor Khan‘s Kyon Ki, who collected almost 12 crore at the box office. But the cost of making this movie, which also starred Jackie Shroff, Suniel Shetty, and Rimi Sen, cost 20 crore.

Aamir Khan Topping From Bottom

Aamir Khan arrived with one of his biggest disasters in the year 2005. It was Mangal Pandey: The Rising that took him almost four years to work on. The film was one of the biggest disasters in the history of Indian Cinema. Mounted on a budget of 35 crore, it collected only 25 crore at the box office. With a loss of almost 40% Aamir topped this list from the bottom.

Here’s wishing that history does not repeat itself, hopefully.
