Box office is indeed smiling on films that have boasted of good content. Starting with Table No. 21 till Saheb Biwi aur Gangster Returns, there has been a good run of medium budget films that have at least managed to cover their costs and even earn some profits. In between these films there have also been Kai Po Che and ABCD which have done a combined business of 100 crores. Now add Jolly LLB to the list, another moderately budgeted film, which has found audience acceptance coming its way. In fact in terms of return on investment, it is one of the bigger success stories of the year.

This can be seen from the fact that after a one week run, the film has managed to bring home around 19.50 Crores already. Not just is this the highest ever that a solo starrer of Arshad Warsi has earned, it is also one of his most loved and accepted films. This was evidenced in the manner in which audience footfalls continued to be consistent over the weekdays as well, after an escalation that the film enjoyed during it’s opening weekend. As things stand today, it could well turn out to be the first choice of the audience in its second weekend, hence leading to a lifetime total of at least 30 crores.

Mere Dad Ki Maruti could well be hoping that it manages to cover at least half of that distance. After a slow start, which was expected given its limited promotion, and release timing/slots, the film stayed on to be very stable during the weekdays. In fact its weekdays to weekend fall was bare minimum, which reflects in 8 crores that it earned in its week long run. The film stays in competition during the second week as well but would face challenge not just from Jolly LLB but also new releases Aatma and Rangrezz. A safe film though, it is already in the profit zone and second successive winner for Saqib Saleem.

There wasn’t any such luck for 3G though which further nosedived during the weekdays. After a poor weekend, writing was clear on the wall and that reflected in collections of less than 5.75 Crores. There is hardly anything left for the film in its second week and it’s lifetime total would hardly exceed this mark. Flop.
