The fee structure has changed drastically in Hollywood over the years. Now, we often see big stars enjoying a lucrative back end deals apart from fees. It came as no big surprise when we heard of Robert Downey Jr taking away $70 million and more for Avengers: Endgame. But at some point, even $1 million meant a lot and legend Marlon Brando was the first actor to break even that barrier.

It was Marlon’s 14th film, Mutiny on the Bounty, which released in 1962. It was for this film, the actor was paid a sum of $1 million. He played Fletcher Christian’s character in the film. Unfortunately, the film didn’t turn out to be a profitable venture for investors.

Reportedly, Mutiny on the Bounty was made at a cost of $19 million. In the theatrical run, it only accumulated a sum of $13-14 million. Speaking of the critical reception, the film bagged mixed to positive reviews upon its release. But Marlon Brando was highly praised for his performance.
