Smart move ahead of Dune 2’s release
For those who don’t know, Dune 2 is all set for a grand release on 1st March. The film is enjoying immense hype on the ground level, and through pre-sales, it is expected to achieve some exciting feats in the post-COVID era, at least for IMAX releases. With things already working in favor, Warner Bros. played a smart move by giving part 1 a re-run.
As soon as pre-sales went live for the re-release, it saw an immense response coming in from movie buffs as the makers had added an exclusive preview of Dune 2 in the film. This strategy has really helped in generating interest on the ground level, thus setting the stage for the box office blast.
Through a special IMAX re-run of Dune held for a week, a staggering collection of $30 million has been amassed at the worldwide box office, reports Collider. That’s simply unbelievable! After adding this number, the film’s updated global lifetime moves up to $433 million. At the North American box office, the collection stands at $109 million, while internationally, the film has earned $325 million.
Surprisingly, it is just below the film’s domestic opening weekend of $41.01 million. In another comparison, it is almost twice the domestic lifetime collection of Jason Statham and Sylvester Stallone-led Expendables 4 or Expend4bles. For those who don’t know, the Expendables film ended its journey at $16.71 million at the North American box office upon its release in 2023.
