Dune: Part Two was released in China on March 8, 2024. The screen count was reduced from 15,000 to only 6,000 after Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire was released on March 29. It was expected to cross the lifetime of Mission: Impossible 7, which minted $47.7 million.
Month-long extension in China
The sci-fi adventure Dune 2 was expected to wrap up its lifetime at the China box office by Sunday, April 7. However, according to trade analyst Luiz Fernando, the regulators have pulled back and decided to extend the run of the Timothee Chalamet and Zendaya starrer by a month.
This means Dune 2 will now conclude its theatrical run in China on May 7. The Denis Villeneuve directorial is now confirmed to cross the $50 million milestone in the overseas market.
Dune 2 China Box Office Collection
On the fourth Wednesday, Dune: Part Two grossed a sum of only $132K. This was a drop of another 65.3% compared to last Wednesday, majorly due to the decreased number of screens.
The total box office collection currently stands at $47.4 million. The epic science fiction film is inches away from crossing Mission: Impossible 7 at the China box office, and that will be another feather added to its hat.
