Citylights, that released yesterday, started off on a low note. The film on its opening day collected approx 80 lacs at the domestic box office. Starring Raj Kumar Rao and Patralekha in the lead roles, the film is a serious drama dealing with issues of making a livelihood in a bustling city like Mumbai. The low responses for the film can be accounted to the ongoing IPL matches.
Also Citylights had not created the much required pre-release buzz and had less appeal among the audiences. Although the film has received great responses from the critics, it could not gather much crowds on its first day. Moreover, the film being less on the commercial lines, it lacks a typical storyline with a love story which usually gathers great responses.
The film should pick up over the weekend. Although with Heropanti still going strong in its second week, Citylights may not be able to pull off a great business.
