
The recently released Telugu film Chennai Love Story has taken the box office by storm. The romantic drama was released in theatres on July 24, at a time when most filmmakers pushed their release date to make way for Jana Nayagan. Chennai Love Story had limited buzz and did not move their release date. The faith of the makers on their film has borne fruit as the film has registered an impressive opening weekend collection.
Chennai Love Story Opening Weekend
The Telugu romantic film was the audience’s pick of the weekend, especially in the Telugu-speaking states. The film opened at the box office in India at 4.95 crore. The film saw a good growth over the weekend, collecting 5.5 crore on Saturday nd 6.25 crore on Sunday. The film’s net total stands at 16.7 crore.

With this, Chennai Love Story has beaten Kiran Abbavaram’s SK Kalyana Mandapam. As a result, the actor’s latest romantic film has overtaken his previous hit to claim the third-highest-grossing spot in his career. SK Kalyana Mandapam had earned a net collection of 11.31 crore during its theatrical run. Meanwhile, Chennai Love Story is now on track to become Kiran’s highest-grossing film. Currently, KA (2024) holds that record with a total collection of 26.94 crore.

Budget and Recovery
The film was reportedly made on a budget of 30 crore, and has earned 16.7 crore net so far. The Telegu drama has recovered over 50% of its budget. The film needs more than 13.3 crore to enter the safe zone.
