As is the case with most biggies that open well and then drop around 50% on the weekdays, Dilwale too followed the same trend. Yes, since the opening wasn’t up to the potential due to clash and other external factors, one just hoped that there would be better sustenance on Monday. However, with Bajirao Mastani going from strength to strength, Dilwale has a task cut out for itself as it is for the first time ever in the modern day Bollywood business of quick-money-in-less-days that the competition has been rock solid from the opponent.
As a result, Dilwale saw 10.09 crore coming in on Monday and while this is a drop of around 50% from its Monday collections, as a standalone number it is not bad. The challenge for the film is to now sustain at these levels with every passing day, so that by the time first week is through, 100 crore mark is comfortably crossed. So far, the film’s collections stand at 75.18 crore.

As I have maintained over the last four days, the real fun would be in the second weekend as that would decide the eventual course that the Shahrukh Khan, Kajol, Varun Dhawan and Kriti Sanon film will take. A good haul in the Christmas holidays would decide the eventual verdict that the Rohit Shetty film would enjoy. Till then, it is going to be wait and watch period for all involved.
