Article 15 Review (Box Office): This Ayushmann Khurrana Starrer Will Find High Patronisation Among ‘Multiplex Audience’
Box Office Expectations:Article 15 is one of those Bollywood releases which rely on word of mouth for it’s Box Office sustenance. Still, the interesting promos, the face value and past track of Ayushmann did the trick and the film got decent visibility among viewers.
Box Office Impact: I watched 9 AM show of Article 15 today and the theatre was mostly empty. The film belongs to a rather dark genre and has no value for masses. It concentrates more on the message and information which is good for it critically, but sadly the majority of people don’t like to spend money on such films no matter how important they are. The slow and detailed narrative of the film is yet another mass spoiler and will put off the majority of the audience.
At the same time, Article 15 will find a lot of appreciation among the high-end multiplex going audience because of its hard-hitting content.
Personal Comments: I personally liked Anubhav Sinha’s idea of directing and producing Article 15. The film will disturb you, open your eyes, will make you think and go restless. Lack of humour was a requirement of a film which is made on such a heavy and important topic and the writers Anubhav Sinha & Gaurav Solanki make a great decision of keeping it minimal in the film. Background score keeps the affairs engaging.
The slow narrative is the only thing which went against it but Ayushmann Khurrana’s spellbinding performance balances it up. He lives the character of IPS officer Ayan Ranjan and is so convincing that his performance goes among one of his best in his career. Sayani Gupta, Kumud Mishra, Manoj Pahwa, Isha Talwar, Nassar, Shubhrajyoti Barat, Sushil Pandey are good in supporting roles but it’s Mohd. Zeeshan Ayyub who takes the cake in a small but impactful role. He is brilliant in the breakdown scene and immediately creates your connect with his character.
Anubhav Sinha has done a brilliant job as director.
Box Office Prospects: The film will find most of the patronisation in multiplexes and masses will avoid it especially when there’s a Kabir Singh in cinemas for them. Article 15 after a slow start at the Box Office will sustain well at the cinemas and can do a total business somewhere in 40-50 crores range.
