Sushant Singh Rajput Death & Kareena Kapoor Khan’s ‘Heroine’ Had Similarities? Madhur Bhandarkar Draws Parallels

Filmmaker Madhur Bhandarkar, who is well known for his hard-hitting films like Fashion, Heroine, Calendar Girls, talks about Nepotism in the film industry. He also talks about the connections being drawn between Sushant Singh Rajput’s untimely demise and his film, ‘Heroine’.
Kareena Kapoor Khan starrer Heroine showcased the manipulations of PR machinery and how leading ladies’ roles are cut down according to the demands of the leading men. The filmmaker claimed that Heroine rubbed a lot of people in Bollywood the wrong way.
During an interview with The Times of India, filmmaker Madhur Bhandarkar told, “After Sushant Singh Rajput’s untimely demise, people on social media are telling me whatever I had shown in the movie Heroine is true. I have shown in the film what actors go through, how they fight their own battles, the PR things and all.”
The ace filmmaker also talked about how his film showcased the inner workings of Bollywood and receiving flak from the industry for showing the truth. He said, “When I made the movie, people in the film fraternity got very upset with me. According to them, I had taken a lot of things from real life. But the same people appreciated me and my work when I made it in other fields. But I had to be true to my craft. What I showed in Heroine is 95 per cent true. I am an honest filmmaker and I stand by the kind of work that I have done in my career. I don’t belong to any lobby or camp.”
Filmmaker Madhur Bhandarkar had originally cast Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, who left the film due to her pregnancy. Later, Kareena Kapoor Khan played the leading role. The film also starred Arjun Rampal, Divya Dutta, Randeep Hooda and Shahana Goswami.
He also talked about why he wanted to cast Kareena in his film. The filmmaker said, “For ‘Heroine’, you need a star, a persona that would match the character. She had to be that Diva who throws tantrums and is super glamorous. Kareena fits perfectly into it. Even today, she calls it her best movie.”
