The Bombay High Court washed its hands off on the gender test case against Shah Rukh Khan, reported a leading daily. Social Activist Varsha Deshpande filed a complaint against the Superstar and his wife Gauri Khan for carrying out pre-natal sex determination test on their new born child AbRam, born from surrogate mother.
Booked under the Prohibition of Sex Selection Act, the date of the hearing was slotted for September 12th. However, Deshpande requested the High Court to slate an earlier date for the case’s disposal in order to avoid any scope of tampering with reports.
However, the High Court refused to meddle in the matter and decided to stay clear from the proceedings of the lower court. The case will now be heard in 3 weeks on the date that was initially allotted.
The court will also issue notice to Dr Firuza Parekh of Jaslok Hospital, where reportedly the entire surrogacy procedure was carried out. Parekh was the same doctor who had helped actor Aamir Khan and his wife Kiran Rao with the birth of their son Azaad.
Shah Rukh Khan and his wife Gauri already have two children Aryan and Suhana. AbRam was born at a private hospital in Mumbai and according to the charges framed against him, the activist accused the actor of determining the child’s sex before birth which is a punishable offence by law, in our country.
Though Khan has denied these accusations as baseless, time and again, the case is still waiting to be heard in court. It is yet to see if any of the charges against him can hold ground at all.
