Shahid Kapoor has graduated from being a chocolate boy college student in Ishq Vishk [2003] to the intense romantic lead in Kabir Singh [2019]. Now it is turn of Sidharth Malhotra too to do something similar, what with the actor moving on from his college student act in Student of the Year [2012] to something far more intense in the violent love story Marjaavaan.
“This may seem like a coincidence but then a lot of similarities are actually coming into play,” says an insider, “Sidharth has been around for seven years now and has done films belonging to different genres. One thing that has always gone in the favor of the actor is that he is extremely likeable. While that factor is set to work tremendously for him in his next release Jabariya Jodi as well, where he plays a loveable young man from Patna, there would be a lot of intensity on display when he comes on screen for Marjaavaan.”
So far, writer-director Milap Zaveri has kept the core plot of the film quite close to his heart. The poster of the film has been quite striking though with the punch-line ‘Ishq Mein Marenge Bhi, Maarenge Bhi‘ promising to bring a different kind of a love story on screen.

“In Kabir Singh, there was no ‘marna-maraana’ involved, though the leading man [Shahid Kapoor] was on a self destruction spree. However, Marjaavaan is on a different footing altogether. For starters, it sees the coming together of Ek Villain team of Sidharth Malhotra and Riteish Deshmukh. In that film, both were pitted opposite each other. In Marjaavaan, it has to be seen who is the villain here. You never know how the plot shapes up there,” our source comments.
