Shaitaan stars Ajay Devgn as Kabir, R Madhavan as Vanraj, Jyotika as Jyoti, Janki Bodiwala as Janvi and Anngad Raaj as Dhruv. Directed by Vikas Bahl, the horror thriller was released in theatres on March 8. The film is a remake of the 2023 Gujarati film, Vash.
The Ajay Devgn starrer received mixed reviews from critics. In the film, Kabir and his family are troubled by a stranger, Vanraj, at their farmhouse. Vanraj possesses Kabir’s daughter Janvi and wants her parents to “offer” her to him. When Kabir and Jyoti refuse to give away their daughter to the devil, he starts harassing them. In one scene, he instructs Janvi to attack her brother Dhruv. So what did Kabir do? Did he sacrifice his daughter or defeat Vanraj? Read to find out the same.

After Janvi attacks her brother Dhruv, Kabir and Jyoti agree to Vanraj’s conditions and “offer” their daughter to him. Jyoti takes Dhruv to the hospital and Kabir decides to get hold of Vanraj and follows him to the forest. Kabir smartly sends Vanraj’s location to his cook’s number in a flashback scene. So, on the way, Kabir goes to the cook’s place, takes the phone, and uses the map application to find Vanraj’s whereabouts.

In the forest, Vanraj has more than 100 girls under his control. He tells the girls that if he drops the black Voodoo doll, they will take one step ahead towards the fire pit. They will all jump into the fire when he drops the red doll. Before Kabir could get to Vanraj, he’s stopped by people guarding the way. Kabir gets terribly injured while fighting these people.
At last, Kabir arrives at the location where Vanraj has imprisoned all of the girls. But Vanraj defeats Kabir and tells him that the girls will attack him if he attempts to hurt him. Kabir is lying injured at Vanraj’s feet. Just as Vanraj is ready to put the red doll into the flames, Kabir hits him. Janvi’s knife, which she had used to harm her father, remained in Kabir’s hands. Before the doll is thrown into the fire, Kabir cuts off Vanraj’s tongue with the same knife.
Without the tongue, Vanraj cannot speak. Kabir throws his tongue into the fire. The girls, including Janvi, all run towards Kabir to attack him. However, Kabir immediately plays a recording from their house where Vanraj says, “You are free”. In another flashback scene, we learn that Kabir used his son Dhruv’s recording device when Vanraj said all these lines in their farmhouse.
Shaitaan Ending Explained: Is Vanraj Dead or Alive?
Towards the end, the cops thank Kabir for rescuing all the girls. They tell him that Vanraj is still missing. Suddenly, there’s a mid-credits scene where Kabir picks up a dead rat inside the forest. He goes into an underground basement where he has Vanraj tied up. Vanraj looks miserable, as he’s been starved. He begs Kabir to give him food, but Kabir refuses. He tells Vanraj that he thinks he is more powerful than humans. However, when it comes to humans, fathers are more powerful as they would go to any extent to save their children.
Kabir walks out of the basement, and the last scene is of Vanraj in a helpless and painful state.
Will There Be Shaitaan 2?
The makers of Shaitaan have left it open-ended. Vanraj is not dead yet. But without his tongue, he is powerless. However, what happens if someone who works for him discovers his whereabouts? That could advance the plot. However, a sequel appears doubtful, given that the makers have not left any such hints. All we can do is wait for the makers to confirm the same.
