“Petty-minded” politics took away the life of Sarabjit Singh, Bollywood filmmaker Madhur Bhandarkar and veteran writer Javed Akhtar said, as Hindi film celebrities reacted strongly to the death of the Indian death row prisoner in Pakistan.

Sarabjit Singh died in a Lahore hospital Thursday, a week after being severly beaten up by two fellow inmates in jail. He had been sentenced to death for bomb blasts in Lahore and Multan that left 14 people dead.
