Psy’s Gangnam Style rage spread like fire with popular actors to cricketers to UN General Secretary shaking their leg to it. But Samsung Galaxy S4 at their India launch roped in popular actor Ranveer Singh to launch Samsung S4 ala Gangnam style.
Rapping the incorrigibly silly lyrics of the songs fashioned of the Gangnam lyric, the dance saw the steps being recreated on a plate of Bollywood tadka. Though its first impression is hilarious, with the lyrics that go ‘If you like the S3, than this phone is even better. It has an HD screen and it’s just a lot slimmer’ it shows our lack of originality to create a new advertising rage.
Though Ranveer Singh’s energy in the song is unbeatable, it is questionable for a brand as huge as Samsung to come up with such a lame advertising stunt on the eve of one of their biggest releases this year.
Though the launch party was vivacious and so is the track, I have personally have my set of reservations on such tricks! Samsung India is being handled by reliance Digital and the entire launch idea was a conception of their team. Knowing India, the video will not take too long to catch on, but with Samsung creating a stature to beat Apple, it needs to have a more elitist approach and not indulge in such unimaginative ploys.
