After the underwhelming Love Aaj Kal, Imtiaz Ali has returned to his directorial duties for Amar Singh Chamkila. The filmmaker has been actively promoting the film. During a recent interaction, he was asked to choose between Kareena Kapoor Khan in Jab We Met and Deepika Padukone in Cocktail. Scroll below to know his answer!
To begin with, Imtiaz has been associated with both films. On the one hand, he was the director and writer for Kareena Kapoor Khan and Shahid Kapoor starrer Jab We Met. The romantic comedy is considered one of the most iconic films made in Bollywood. It was declared a hit at the box office with lifetime earnings of 32 crores net.
Imtiaz Ali’s connection with Cocktail
On the other hand, Imtiaz Ali wrote the script for Cocktail, but Homi Adajania directed the film. It starred Saif Ali Khan, Deepika Padukone, and Diana Penty in the leading roles. The 2012 romantic comedy earned 76 crores in its lifetime and was also a hit at the box office.
In an interview with Connect FM Canada, Imtiaz Ali was asked to pick a better performance between Kareena Kapoor Khan in Jab We Met and Deepika Padukone in Cocktail. The director responded, “Very tough, very tough, but let me say Kareena because I was the director.”
That’s not it; Imtiaz also said Jab We Met is a better film than Cocktail. He also chose Gulzar as a better lyricist over Javed Akhtar!
