Salman Khan’s sentence on the 2002 hit and run case was pending its judgment of his appeal against the magistrate’s verdict today has now been given a deferred hearing date – 24th June. The actor, who was accused of running down down pavement dwellers with his Land Cruiser in a bakery on Hill Road, Bandra, has run into bad books for this infamous incident.
If proven guilty, the actor could be meted out 10 years of imprisonment. The actor, who has been charged with culpable homicide not amounting to murder, has appealed against the Magistrate order, demanding a retrial of his 2002 case.
The actor, who was previously tried for a lesser charge for causing Death by Negligence was booked under 304A of the Indian Penal Code, is now being charged more heavily. While he could have easily passed through his former case that would have slated him for 2 years’ imprisonment, now with a higher charge his jail term would be a minimum of 10 years!
The accident that had killed one and injured four was a result of drunken driving on part of Khan. According to the prosecutor, Salman’s blood sample measured 60 mg of alcohol that is way beyond the permissible amount.
With Sanjay Dutt’s case having left an ominous impact, Salman fans will just have to pray that he doesn’t meet the same fate!
