“I Am A Complete Director’s Actor!” – Priyanka Chopra

Omung Kumar doesn’t have the demeanor of a novice or a débutant. One of the first things that will strike you about him is that he seems a pro in just his first film. But how did he convince an actress of Priyanka’s stature was a mystery. When we interviewed Priyanka for Mary Kom, one of the first things we asked was whether she had second thoughts about working with a débutant director. Chopra reverted with, “I have worked with many first time directors. Be it Tarun Mansukhani or Nikhil Advani or even Omung, there are many fresh directors on my list. Yes, I am a complete director’s actor but having said that I would like to add that I don’t judge the film based on who is directing it but on its story. For Mary Kom, I would to give the full credit to Saiwyn for writing the story. It was his idea to make a film on Mary Kom and I give him full credit for that. Writers are neither given much importance in our country nor are paid well and that’s so tragic. Mary Kom wouldn’t have happened without him. When I heard the story, I judged it based on that.”
