This two-part Indian crime film directed by Anurag Kashyap is centred on the coal mafia of Dhanbad where a clash between Sultan and Shahid Khan leads to the expulsion of Khan from Wasseypur and ignites a deadly blood feud spanning three generations. The story is spread across the time period 1941 to 2009. While both parts of the film were originally shot as a single 5hr 35minute film, they had to be released in two parts as most Indian theatres were unwilling to screen a film of this length.
