Bollywood is increasingly fashioning itself into an era of bygone yesteryear period, recreating older films and older periods like the glorious 60s and 70s. Not just Special Chabbis and Sajid Khan’s lately release Himmatwala, but 2013 has a host of films lined up which is not set in the contemporary period. This is perhaps a deliberate attempt on the part of film makers to recreate on screen nostalgic elements they hold endearingly, or simply a way to deviate from other mainstream films trying their hand at something new and mysterious.

Set in the right out of Zamindar period Bengal, the film has Sonakshi Sinha and Ranveer Singh in the prime roles. The trailers clearly show the special care film makers have taken to impeccably redo the yesteryear period! Sonakshi’s make up in the film is left plain and minimal yet has conspicuous old time reflections, like the ‘laali’ she sports is hard to be missed. Ranveer’s hairdo – oiled and combed back is peculiar to the time in which the film is set. The Old-world theme of the film matched with the unnerving chemistry of Ranveer and Sonakshi evident from the trailers, this is undoubtedly one of the most awaited releases of the year! Wait to get looted, I say.

YRF’s upcoming release directed by Ali Abbas Zafar of Mere Brother ki Dulhan fame, this film had the whole City of Joy cheering for it. The film which is extensively shot around the Ganges is a slice of 1980s’ Calcutta and deals with the lives of two small time petty thieves who entangle themselves in the web of Coal mafia. Starring Ranveer Singh, Priyanka Chopra and Arjun Kapoor, this film is one of the most talked about ones in Bollywood, since last two months. Zafar flooded his twitter with pictures from the sets of the film’s shoot in Kolkata – Ranveer and Arjun’s clothing, Priyanka’s polka dotted top and mostly her hairdo which will remind you of the iconic Bengali actress Suchitra Sen, is hard to miss. Also in news was the beautiful Durga Puja song sequence in the film which was shot under the Howrah Bride with help from professional and experienced men from Kumartuli. Gundagardi has never looked so luring before!

Like every Aamir Khan film, even this one is kept under strict surveillance with no spoilers of it leaking out. Directed by Rajkumar Hirani, the film has Aamir Khan, Anushka Sharma, Boman Irani and Sushant Singh Rajput. The film’s shooting is on in a far flung obscure place in Rajasthan. With the few pictures of the film which are sprawled all over the net, Aamir’s clothing style mainly the jeans he sports et al suggests the film is not set in recent times. Also the shutterbugs captured Aamir dressed in a ghagra and traditional Rajasthani folk clothes which indicate towards the same. Khan who prefers maintaining the privacy of his film till audiences go to watch it, encourages respect towards the film’s sanctity and refrains from discussing it till finished. Yet, if it is an Aamir Khan film, it cannot be ordinary- which is enough to get people excited.

A sequel of the 2010 hit film, this one is set in the same three decades old Bombay locales. Starring Akshay Kumar, Imran Khan, Sonakshi Sinha and Sonali Bendre, the film will see the daredevil Mr Khiladi in a role fashioned the dreaded gangster Dawood Ibrahim. The moustaches of both Akshay and Imran are peculiar of the age the film intends of depict and has been done rather flawlessly as seen in stills of the film. The film is going to release later this year and like always Akshay Kumar is a delicious treat hard to miss.
