China has emerged as one of the lucrative markets for Bollywood, with even small scale movies raking handsomely at the box office. Be it Aamir Khan’s Dangal or the recent blockbuster, AndhaDhun, the Chinese audiences have shown a great love for the Indian content. Now, it is also learnt that 2007’s hit Taare Zameen Par, is set for a remake in Chinese.

Taare Zameen Par was one of the nine Indian films to be showcased with English subtitles in China during the 60th anniversary of Indo-China diplomatic ties. Also despite being officially released in the country, the movie is amongst the most pirated movies playing in China. The movie was also attempted to release with Mandarin subtitles.

The source added, “But China does not permit the release of foreign films that are older than two years so that move was scuttled. But since the film rides on universal emotions, a collective decision of remaking it with a local star cast was taken recently,” reports Mumbai Mirror.

The project is currently in the process and will be produced by Chinese local banner and will be directed by Ma Duo.
