From one Friday to another, this could well turn out to be one of the most eventful weeks for Akshay Kumar in his illustrious career. While he is already busy promoting the release of his space exploration film Mission Mangal, the news of PadMan winning a National Award for Best Film On Social Issues has been an icing on the cake.
Not that there are any surprises around this win. When the film had released a year and a half back, it was pretty much touted to be one of those affairs that deserved acknowledgment at the national level. Critically acclaimed from all quarters, it was also a decent box office success. Moreover, for Akshay Kumar, it was also a personal win as an actor since he managed to shed his superstar image and instead turned into a common man for this film, just like he had done for an earlier film on social issues, Toilet – Ek Prem Katha.
Now there is more to come for the actor who would next be seen in Mission Mangal, a film where he yet again turns into a common man. As a mission director who channelizes his all-women team of Vidya Balan, Sonakshi Sinha, Taapsee Pannu, Kirti Kulhari and Nithya Menen, he is said to have played an anchoring role with aplomb.

No wonder, all eyes are on how he delivers in Mission Mangal which is one of those rare Bollywood films that are sans any sort of romantic angle whatsoever. This Balki production is indeed one of those truly different films that defies quintessential Bollywood norms and instead presents something altogether unique to the audience.
