Ajay-Rohit’s Singham 2 To Release On Independence Day, Another Akshay Clash!

This year, which will see a huge clash between Akshay Kumar and Ajay Devgn on the 1st of May with their respective films, Holiday and Action Jackson scheduled to release on the same date, will also be witness to another battle, drawn on the lines of Chennai Express and OUATIMD. Akshay, who has been desperately trying to get back to his winning streak, with his numerous films lined up, will have a lot more catching to do this time as well. Pitted against other big budgeted films, Akshay’s films Holiday and Its Entertainment will have to see major clashes at the ticket windows.

Akshay’s Its Entertainment releases on the 8th of August, 2013, the day Chennai Express was scheduled to release worldwide. Whilst last year, it was Akshay’s OUATIMD that released on Independence Day, this time it will be a reverse reaction. Rohit Shetty along with his muse Ajay Devgn returns with his Singham franchise as the duo picked up on the Independence Day release.

Both films which are scheduled to release in around the same time, are masala entertainers and would be causing immense screen crunch for each other which might just deter its growth, unless it can boast of an impeccably written plotline and superb content.

Although Chennai Express faced numerous hurdles with OUATIMD releasing a week later, the Rohit Shetty directorial went in to rake in even more moolah over the coming weeks, thanks to a thoroughly enjoyable joyride that CE was. But OUATIMD, which came in with a lot of expectations could not even rise up and rather fell out dismally, courtesy to a bland script and some boring performances. While the ‘content is the real king’ worked for most films, it would be nice to see whether the same would happen in case of Akshay-Ajay’s huge clash! Solo releases and no competition does not ensure films having a magical run at the box office, take OUATIMD’s case for example.

Going by statistics, it would be easier to presume Rohit taking the victory lap, because each time there has been a Rohit Shetty directorial pitted against an Akshay Kumar film, the director has thrashed the actor hands down! Despite this not being a direct release, Reliance Entertainment’s announcement officially means that Singham 2 will arrive just about a week post the release of Akshay’s Its Entertainment. And if Akshay’s film doesn’t boast of a powerful storyline, it would be seemingly hard for its makers to thrive through the storm that Singham 2 will bring with it.

Singham, which opened up to brilliant accolades and praises all over went in to make over 100 crores and kind of developed both Rohit Shetty and Ajay Devgn as box office money spinners. Now that they have decided to zero in on 15th August for their release, it would be firecrackers this season with Singham 2’s wham-bam scenario calling for applause! The original Tamil Singham, recently had its sequel released too last year which yet again had a bombastic run. Going by history, making money would not be difficult for Singham 2, unless it falls prey to shabby narrative and a loose story!

But with Akshay gearing up for some productive releases this year, will it be the same ChennaiExpress-OUATIMD scenario once again? Will Rohit Shetty emerge victorious over Akki yet again? Or will Akshay topple the Independence Day hurdle just like CE did? As of now, let’s just wait and watch!
