Phata Poster Nikhla Hero Music Review

Rajkumar Santoshi’s films have the music which is known for its streak of entertaining flavor. However with Phata Poster Nikhla Hero‘s album that has familiarity smeared all over it, the music is predictably dull. Coming from Pritam who delivered Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani barely a few months back, this album doesn’t match up to the standards he has lately set up for himself. The lyricist Irshaad Kamil and Amitabha Bhattacharya could easily have come up finesse in terms of words, but alas! it was a poor show from them as well.

Tu Mere Agal Bagal Hai – Phata Poster Nikhla Hero Music Review

The album starts with Mika Singh’s Agal Bagal. The only reason why this song manages to score at all is because of the singer’s zeal in it. He renders enthusiasm to this carnival track and the dash of Goan tunes make this a passable treat.

Main Rang Sharbaton Ka – Phata Poster Nikhla Hero Music Review

Main Rang Sharbaton Ka sung by Atif Aslam and Chinmayee Sripada works on the tunes of typical romantic tracks. Though the singers are both spectacular at their jobs, the overall song has a flimsy feel to it and fail to touch you at all. I almost missed Atif’s mesmerizing tracks in the past like Kuch Iss Tarah  in which he managed to tug at the strings of your heart. There is melody in this song but there is no soul. However, the reprise version is surprisingly much better with Arijit Singh making the song a lot more fervent!

Hey Mr. DJ – Phata Poster Nikhla Hero Music Review

Pritam is usually great at going the techno way in his songs. After all who can forget his Badtameez Dil? However, with Let’s Go Bananas he negates all the marvel of the former. The lyrics are amateurish and the song lacks immensely in tempo. The imaginative use of harmonium is laudable but the song is clearly a dud!

Mere Bina Tu (Duet Version) – Phata Poster Nikhla Hero Music Review

I still kept fishing for one memorable track in this album hoping to find it in Mere Bina Tu and frankly this is the only track which isn’t a sore disappointment. Rahat Fateh Ali Khan and Harshdeep Kaur have wonderfully arranged voices which are greatly compatible. The flourishing use of Spanish guitar in the song was very soothing; making this song the album’s sole hummable product.

Dhating Naach – Phata Poster Nikhla Hero Music Review

If you thought that Bananas was all this album had to throw at you, hold on. There are mausumbis too. Dhating Naach is a shockingly atrocious composition, almost good enough to be a blemish for the album. There is an overdose of sleazy itemization content which was expected but this one is such a snore bore brimming with sameness!

Janam Janam – Phata Poster Nikhla Hero Music Review

Janam Janam is a stirring yet melodramatically sappy numbers. Alternating between the voices of Sunidhi Chauhan and Atif Aslam, the song is promising but impactless.

The Last Word – Phata Poster Nikhla Hero Music Review

The music album of PPNH is a mediocre feat with no striking songs in the album. It is alarming that this is all that could be evoked from Pritam who has given of the year’s most blockbuster albums and the lyricist of Lootera which undeniably can claim to be the year’s most tender album. This musical concoction was a sad broth and I am going with 1.5/5 for this dim and sluggish album.
